MOVIES THAT DON'T ACTUALLY REMIND ONE OF POLY . . . but in which poly certainly would have solved some big problems!

From time to time we've posted entries along these lines, but they were always in the context of threads dedicated to movies that made us think polygamy was being suggested, perhaps with a wink and a nod.

This thread is for movies featuring plots in which the introduction of polygyny to the script would have solved one or more significant problems that might have diminished danger, eliminated murders, and increased the well-being of all involved.

My first entry is Whistling in the Dark from 1941 with Red Skelton. Had he not been required to choose between two different women, a great deal of cross-purpose chaos could have been avoided due to the fact that the three of them could have teamed up to solve their conundrum without wasting time on sniping at each other and being out of alignment.

Well, I'm not just talking about the resolution of the romantic dilemma -- but situations in which the transformation from female competition to familial cooperation would provide new and significant opportunities to create solutions to problems.
 
Spring 1941. Such a sad story..
 
"Mean Girls" could have had a better ending with Cady and Regina marrying Aaron.

Superman could have married both Lana Lang and Lois Lane.

"My Best Friend's Wedding" could have had a happier ending.

I used to love Buffy The Vampire Slayer and always thought that Zander, Buffy, and Willow belonged together.

Shouldn’t a woman feel like an actual piece of meat if men are fighting over her without deferring to her wishes?
I mean, talk about ignoring her feelings 😱

Well the reason the older brother competed for her, was because of the fact that she endangered the upcoming marriage of the younger brother with his fiancee'. With polygyny, there is no story. He can marry both, and the older brother doesn't have to take off and bring her to Martha's vineyard on a pretense that he is in love with her.

Not seeing it from the male point of view. We communicate in grunts and the like as you have noted
Would not consider a woman who put herself on the block as the prize I don't imagine

In some sort of unlikely scenario...ask me to come up with an amusing one next time bourbon has me in my cups. It will be like a Rube Goldberg machine only with people I imagine...presuming that we have that unlikely scenario where a prize of a wife were put up for grabs if one can just come out the winner of a set to...it had its appeal to those of us with a lower brow

It's been a while since I saw that movie, but as I recall, the wife wanted to commit adultery with a doctor she worked with because she "wasn't happy" with her husband.

The husband did have some problems with internet porn use, not being considerate of his wife, and wanting to buy a boat instead of financially helping his ill mother in law.

I don't see where polygamy relates to the story.

An inconsiderate husband can be an issue. Porn use is a problem.
A woman considering adultery as a response to her "feeling unhappy" is a big problem.

I suppose you're right. I haven't seen it in a while, either.

There was another movie they made that followed that one. "War Room" - in which the man was in danger of breaking fidelity to his wife... I don't remember all the details of that one either... 😕

I think the introduction of polygyny wouldn't necessarily change the storyline in either one, but it would have a lot of bearing on the context.

I haven't seen "War Room", but have seen most of the Kendrick brothers movies. I would love it if they made one that portrayed polygyny in a positive light. I don't think it is very likely. Maybe it could be "Facing the Giants" part two where the coach adds a second wife and gets fired from the Christian high school. 😉
