Great/inspirational quotes

Trust Him. When you have done that, you are living the life of grace. No matter what happens to you in the course of that trusting - no matter how many waverings you may have, no matter how many suspicions that you have bought a poke with no pig in it, no matter how much heaviness and sadness your lapses, vices, indispositions, and bratty whining may cause you - you simply believe that somebody else, by His death and resurrection, has made it all right, and you just say "Thank you" and shut up.

The whole slop-closet full of mildewed performances (which is all you have to offer) is simply your death; it is Jesus who is your life. If He refused to condemn you because your works were rotten, He certainly isn't going to flunk you because your faith isn't so hot. You can fail utterly, therefore, and still live the life of grace. You can fold up spiritually, morally, or intellectually and still be safe. Because at the very worst, all you can be is dead - and for Him Who is the Resurrection and the Life, that just makes you His cup of tea.

“No one has the truth who merely happens into its possession through the accident of birth. He really has it who fights for it, and possesses it who gains it through conquest.”

"There's only one thing that binds us together: freedom, and the love of freedom, and the willingness to sacrifice for freedom -- and if you're not willing to do that, then you're on the wrong team."

In Antiquities of the Jews, written by the Jewish historian Flavius Josephus, in 17:2 it is written, “…it is the ancient practice among us to have many wives at the same time.”

“Power and wealth may be withheld, but there is an inexhaustible supply of His spirit. And, in times like this, when the most imposing power is defeated, and wealth vanishes as the mist, we see as never before the true value of our priceless possession – the spirit of God.”

Unsearchable Riches
Volume Nine, Number Five, June 1918

God reigns; that is the great first truth. He does not merely contemplate and oversee; He designs, directs, and decrees, and is never disconcerted nor disappointed. What to us are aberrations, defeats, disasters, are, to Him “declaring the end from the beginning…My counsel shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure” (Isaiah 46:10). They are but steps toward the fulfillment of His transcendent, beneficent purposes of universal good.

There are some two dozen “one another” verses in Paul’s letters. Those who are around us are there for a divine reason – God uses others, both positively and negatively, as part of His molding of our lives.

Positively, He uses aspects of someone’s life to awaken our hearts to something lacking in our own, and then He steadily develops it in us.

Negatively, He uses something in the life of another to move our hearts away from a certain trait, character or lifestyle – to purge something out of our life.

We are also in the lives of others as God’s influencing agent in them as well. He uses this divine placement of our lives reciprocally. Like stones in a rock tumbler; the stones actually being used as a part of the polishing process – mutually to each other in the midst of agitating circumstances, until a smooth, beautiful stone appears from an otherwise rough and ordinary rock.

“I know that I am in far more danger of being slandered by those who profess to be God’s most faithful servants than by the Slanderer himself.”

. . . and the latest entry in the paradoxically-inspirational food-for-thought category . . .

"It's no good fooling about with love, you know. You can't fall into it like a soft job without dirtying up your hands. It takes muscle and guts. If you can't bear the thought of messing up your nice, tidy soul, you better give up the whole idea of life and become a saint, because you'll never make it as a human being."

Jimmy Porter (played by Richard Burton)
Look Back in Anger, 1959

[This film/play is also one in a very long list of stories in which a great deal of heartache could have been prevented if two women had just been willing to share the one man they both loved.]

"We choose truth over facts!"

- Joe Biden

“As human beings with limited spiritual vision, we can only see the tangled and knotted threads which represent the problems of life. From God’s point of view, however, there is a beautiful tapestry woven and stitched with love. The stitches are often painful and cause our hearts to bleed, but the finished product is a beautiful masterpiece of God’s design.”

Dreama Whitlow, 2017

It’s not very diverse of me to not be different people while being myself.

“For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ” (I Corinthians 12:12).

We read not only that the members composed together are the one Body, but that this Body is Christ. We have always considered Christ as the Head; we have considered little, if at all, that Christ is also the Body. He is the Body because the Body is composed of so many members who are filled with Christ. Christ is in you, Christ is in me, and Christ is in every one of us. We all have Christ within. The Christ in you is one with the Christ in me, and the Christ in us is one with the Christ in all other Christians. Therefore, Christ is the Body composed of so many members who are filled with Him.

Witness Lee (1905-1997)

"Stand tall, and fear no one discovering your true self. There is no shame in being the person God made you to be. He has a special purpose for each of us, and that could not have been accomplished by lazily creating us all to be the same, so never be ashamed to let who He designed you to be shine!"

Winston Borden, 2021

“It is freedom that allows ordinary people to do extraordinary things.”
Rush Limbaugh

“Those who regard the recent course of legislation as disastrous, and see that its future course is likely to be still more disastrous, are being reduced to silence by the belief that it is useless to reason with people in a state of political intoxication.”

Herbert Spencer, April 1884
