Great/inspirational quotes

"Knowledge puffs up. Love builds up. Almost every advance in the knowledge of God has resulted in an arrogant, self-assertive division among His saints. We witness the sad spectacle of the followers of Christ divided into hostile camps, each proclaiming its own superiority and relegating the rest to an inferior position. Each claims a monopoly of His grace, because of some fancied attainment in faith or faithfulness. Let no one imagine that a knowledge of the mystery is requisite in order to receive its benefits. If that were so, how few would ever find the place prepared for them by God!"

. . . and I suspect the same lack of knowledge about how to comprehend The Trinity is just as thoroughly tolerated by our Creator . . .

"God meets us on a family, rather than on a forensic basis. His dealings with us are not legal but parental. We are not under the law, but under grace. This means simply that what reigns at the center of the spiritual universe is not overbearing power, nor yet calculating justice, but rather outgoing love."

I'm thinking there are at least 9 types of people who don't understand binary . . . and that's just counting the sexual orientations!

There, @Keith Martin , I fixed it for you.

Accepting non-traditional Biblical based ideas will also get you the same attention.

I didn't even think about that when I posted it. So true!

“Some of us always want to be illuminated saints with golden haloes and the flush of inspiration, and to have the saints of God dealing with us all the time. A gilt-edge saint is no good; he is abnormal, unfit for daily life, and altogether unlike God. We are here as men and women, not as half-fledged angels, to do the work of the world, and to do it with an infinitely greater power to stand the turmoil because we have been born from above. If we try to re-introduce the rare moments of inspiration, it is a sign that it is not God we want. We are making a fetish of the moments when God did come and speak, and insisting that He must do it again; whereas what God wants us to do is to ‘walk by faith’.”

If men will cease taking themselves so seriously and accept God’s statement that “we can do nothing against the truth but only for the truth” they will not be so fearful of the task of plunging into the study of the Word of God. The Bible may be deep, but if need be, I prefer to drown in it, rather than to be battered to death by the waves of human ignorance, human error, superstition, and opinion. Those who meditate upon the Word of God day and night are called “blessed.” That word means “happy.” And I claim to be one of those happy men.

I’ve not read the book this quote was taken from. Maybe the distinction is made in the book, however, I think it should be noted here. It is appointed unto man once to die and then the judgement. God deals with the unbelieving and unrepentant on a legal basis after they die. Only those who have believed and repented are related to on a familial bases.

“How does one become a butterfly? You must want to fly so much that you are willing to give up being a caterpillar.”

Trina Paulus, Hope for the Flowers, 1973

This was a common refrain elsewhere when someone would ask A, or B?
I think the answer is quite fitting here at BF.

Q. Should I go with A, or B?
A. Get both.

“So how do you know if a dream is really from God or if it’s just an idea that popped into your head? For one thing, God’s dream will never go against His Word, because His Will never contradicts His Word. If the desire you have goes against God’s Word, it’s not His Dream. Paul told us the secret to determining if a dream is from God when he said, ‘God . . . is able to do far more than we would ever dare to ask or even dream of – infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, or hopes’ (Ephesians 3:20, TLB). God’s dream will rise to the top while everything else will melt away.”

Amen! Persuing God's will shall bring more happiness and fulfillment long term, rather than chasing after worldly dreams and desires! It might not make sense in the short-term, but in the end, it's all worth it!

“Donald O. Clifton, in his book Living Your Strengths, says from a very young age we are taught to be ‘well rounded.’ Our ticket to our teachers’ approval is to soften our sharp edges, to become smooth and well rounded. According to Clifton, however, what we’re often taught is how to become as dull as we can possibly be. We’re taught to play it safe, to be compliant, to follow convention and tradition, to color inside the lines and to stay inside the box. God never meant for us to be well rounded.”

"Consider the possibility that the approach of mucking around about past transgressions tells one more about the mucker than it does about the muckee."
