We have neighbors who were mainstream LDS and they were also poly. They ended up being outed as poly and told to leave, which they did.

But they are not the only ones. My point is that being LDS and poly isn't necessarily fundamentalist.

Well, technically it *is* fundamentalist. The problem here is that the group led by Warren Jeffs has "fundamentalist" in their name, but when people say they are "fundamentalist mormon" or "mormon fundamentalists," they don't mean the FLDS, they mean that they adhere to the original restored teachings like plural marriage, often Adam-God, etc, probably about 75% the "priesthood ban", etc.

Those neighbors would have been best described as "independent fundamentalists" before, and certainly now unless they joined an organized group.

It would be like if some group called themselves "The Christians" and then went out and killed a bunch of babies, set fire to hospitals, and sacrificed elephants, you wouldn't associate all "Christians" with 'The Christians". Sorry, haven't had my caffeine, and that is the best my brain could come up with.
