Poly Practised Elsewhere

https://www.cuw.edu/academics/schoo...assets/theological-journal/v3i1-Fall_2015.pdf

This document contains 82 notable quotations from Luther on polygamy arranged by date. Some of these quotes can otherwise be difficult to find in English as not all he wrote has been translated from German. The quotations show he was at times rather conflicted by polygamy. It may be good to keep this document as a reference resource.

That's gold there. Thanks!

This one is humorous, it's a conversation between Luther and his wife, and from what I know of her personality I entirely believe it. To those who would say, "if a man is gody enough, his wife will go along with polygamy"...I give you Martin Luther. This is the man it is said could have been pope had he not been inspired to lead the Reformation. Martin jokingly called her 'the morning star', the irony of which is lost on everyone who reports it.

Just another prime example of how a good man with a bad first wife will find it nearly impossible to live a plural life.
What’s that sound echoing through the hills?

REEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Welcome! :)

I ran that PDF through OCR and here is the quote as a select-enabled copy friendly text:

41 "[Martin Luther said,] 'The time will come when a man will take more
than one wife.' The doctor's wife responded. 'Let the devil believe that!'
The doctor said, 'The reason, Katy, is that a woman can bear a child only
once a year while her husband can beget many.' Katy responded, "Paul
said that each man should have his own wife" [lCo 7:2]. To this the doctor
replied, ' Yes, ''his own wife" and not "only one wife'. for the latter isn't
what Paul wrote.' The doctor spoke thus in jest for a long time, and finally
the doctor's wife said, ' Before I put up with this, I'd rather go back to the
convent and leave you and all our children.""
1532 TR 2:105, 11-19; LW31:153

I would post the whole PDF here as select and copy enabled text from OCR. But it is 26MB file, I tried uploading it and got an error message that it is too big to be uploaded

Could you cut the pdf down to just the first page and the article to make it smaller?

Good suggestion. I've cut it down in size and run it through OCR. That worked, and now you can select & copy & paste any of the text related to Luther. However, one trick some PDF makers try to use is have the text not so sharp so it then generates mistakes in the final document when you copy and paste. You won't see the mistakes until you past a text selection into some other program such as MS Word etc (also same problem pasting here). It's not an insurmountable problem, it just may require some spelling or punctuation correction, probably quite doable, but time consuming if you want to correct the whole document. I hope I'm not infringing copyright by doing this.

Edit: I'm thinking I should explain a little further. Often, the reason an original PDF is not made with select-able and copy-enabled text is to prevent original work from being copied and further distributed. I have circumvented that. I hope this is legal - does anybody here know?

I see what you mean, but the arms and hands do look more male than female.

Look at the face vs. the wives. Frankly looks like the twin sister of one of them. It looks like a woman with facial hair and tattoos added. You can look at a few pictures of FtM trannies to get a feel for the affect if you can't see it.

However it could be a male; soy combined with the lower sexual dimorphism of Asians. But there were comments to this same end in the linked article; some even questioning the sex of the wives. Thailand has a reputation as a global destination for sex change operations; something those seeking foreign 'wives' should keep in mind.
