• Biblical Families is not a dating website. It is a forum to discuss issues relating to marriage and the Bible, and to offer guidance and support, not to find a wife. Click here for more information.

I thought we all know what family and marriage is.

Well...that's part of why this forum even exists is because Christians don't agree on what makes up a 'family'.

Is it one husband, one wife, and two kids?

Or is it one husband, one legal wife, one or more additional but not legal wives, and a passel of children?

I believe it is about week now since topic "What exactly marriage is" has started on this forum.

This is getting crazy, guys. There are already how much threads? 5? Every day at least 40 posts are made. So much devotion.

I never thought I will see such thing in Christian family forum. I thought we all know what family and marriage is.
Iron Sharpens Iron. If we discuss it 4000 times it is not too much. If you do not want to read it and think you know everything already you do not have to. I for one will never stop searching for truth and others ideas.
Proverbs 25:2 It is the glory of God to conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings.
If we stop looking at things differently we should just close the website/ shut down the forum and know that we know everything.

I think @The Revolting Man has a very firm conviction that he wants to preach. He'll certainly keep preaching it until people stop responding. He might even continue after that. However it ends, he'll make the last post, and it will be restating the same view he had at the beginning. The only question is how long the conversation will be. And that all depends on how much time everyone else wants to devote to it. :)

My mind can be changed. Someone’s going to have to do the work. Although on this particular issue that would be hard at this point. No one has ever offered any support for any other position. Which doesn’t seem to embarrass any of them as much as it would me.

I’ve blocked Memefan so I don’t know what he’s whining about. I’m sure it’s that America is mean. But if he’s complaining that I talk about forming one flesh too much then he’s missing the point.

We can’t define how to start a marriage. We don’t know when adultery laws apply. This is a big deal. One that we should all be anxious to resolve.

True, but there is one hidden assumption.

We don't have infinite time. I have decided that following rule will cover 99% of possible cases in my life: If I sleep with girl and she is free, she is my wife.

Does this cover everything? No, there are different rules for slaves. Would understanding them be good? Yes. Is investing neccesary time to understand them good investment? I don't believe so. Marriage isn't only part in Bible which we have to understand.

Going to church no more makes you a Christian than going to a hospital makes you a doctor.

But it's a good start.

For anyone that doesn't know, the basic gist of this is that the cops in Australia went to do a welfare check on a guy and it was an ambush. 2 were killed and 2 were injured, and 1 neighbour was killed also. This is a messed up family. There were two brothers and a wife, and the wife had been with one of the brothers then got divorced and married the other brother. The brothers' father is actually a pastor and they hadn't spoken to him in years. Their father said that what they did wasn't right at all, and he still didn't know why exactly they chose not to speak to him anymore.

Today this article has come out with an interview with the Deputy Commissioner, saying that they have declared this an Extremist Christian attack because these guys read the bible, made notes, and also believed that Christ was going to come back and rule for 1000 years.

From the article:

Linford compared the shooting to the 1993 Waco massacre in Texas, saying this was the first time a Christian extremist attack had occurred on Australian soil.

Linford is an a**hole. The Waco people did not attack anyone, THEY WERE ATTACKED!!!

And as far as I am concerned I have no sympathy for the Australian police. The last three years saw them releasing their inner-Gestapo and I am both surprised and disappointed at the Aussies that it's taken this long for anyone to push back at them.

Tons of video to support what I posted here:

I kinda feel like it's better to have no "legal" wives.

You need a legal wife in the mix. Especially if you're in the USA. There are all sorts of legal drawbacks to not having a legal wife in the family.

First thing I thought also. Of course, the story could be loosely compared to Waco if the point of this story is to "attack" Christians. Maybe they are planning for a Waco.

That is the case for the USA, but certainly not everywhere (and may even vary between US states). This is very specific to local laws. In other jurisdictions it can be better to have no legal wife. Know your local laws.

It would not surprise me if the authoritarian regime in Australia wants to oppress Christians. We have the same nonsense in the USA with the FBI wanting to class practicing Catholics who dissent from the communist pope as terrorists.

Somebody needs to Take the Mark, take the poke, and be allowed to buy and sell...

When I have had to go deal with the bank in Steve's absence the first question I get: Are you his wife?

Also, we have an LLC and a trust. If Steve were to die out of state then my being his wife means we don't end up in probate.

This was discussed in the thread on 'Kingdom courts', along with private law and the ability to contract. It IS possible to have a private contract, build trusts, and provide for eventualities without having to make a "deal with the devil."

If you don't have any significant assets then perhaps you can do that.
