I know Roman Catholics hold the Apocrypha as being Scripture. I'm just kinda surprised to hear Torah observant folks doing so. They generally seem even less enthusiastic about Roman Catholicism than Protestants are (not that Apocrypha equals Rome or anything). Most Roman Catholic Bibles include Sirach as part of the canon. I also note it being quoted as part of His Word by Jewish sources.
That's what the "Mark Forums Read" button is for. It's an extremely satisfying button to press!there has been a big number in red on my screen and it suddenly felt very annoying,
i've worked on it and gotten my

I think it's highly worth reading. It was taken as authoritative by too many early church fathers to just dismiss. These books were rejected by the Masoretic Jews long before they were rejected by the Protestant Church - the Protestants rejected them largely because the Jews had rejected them, so when they looked for the Hebrew scriptures these weren't available. Since then Hebrew copies of some of these books have been found at Qumran, so it's clear at least some were actually Hebrew originally but the Masoretes simply chose for whatever reason not to preserve them. In some cases these books feel more Christian than the remainder of the Old Testament and it seems clear that the Jews may have had religious reasons to reject them, reasons irrelevant to us.What are y'all's thoughts on the Apocrypha? Coming from a protestant background,. I've never considered these books as being authoritative.
I have one Bible with those books, and I've read some in them. I find them somewhat interesting, and even a little beneficial, but don't consider them to be Bible, like the Old Testament and New Testament.
Lately, I've been listening to Follown Yashua on YouTube, and he is frequently quoting Sirach like it is the Bible.
Thanks for your thoughts
Sirach is excellent. I just quoted it in another thread here a few minutes ago! Most Roman Catholic Bibles include Sirach as part of the canon. I also note it being quoted as part of His Word by Jewish sources.
No need to fret, Steve, they are preparing the re-education camps as we speak. Chin up buddySilly me.
I need to get my mind right.
I know you're not being entirely facetious, @Asforme&myhouse, but I am convinced that many of us who don't drink the Kool-Aid are being kept alive for some purpose useful to those who have been orchestrating everything. No need to fret, Steve, they are preparing the re-education camps as we speak. I think they expected conservatives to fall inline with the death shot when they used trump to roll out the vaxx that they already had patents for. They underestimated their enemies. While they are mildly happy with the destruction they have caused so far, I think they were hoping for a lot more.I know you're not being entirely facetious, @Asforme&myhouse, but I am convinced that many of us who don't drink the Kool-Aid are being kept alive for some purpose useful to those who have been orchestrating everything.
I'm in the middle of rewatching The Matrix for the first time since 2004. The identified enemy is different from our actual reality (AI vs. one form or another of the ruling class), but, for the time being, I'm going to refer to my little hypothesis as Battery Preparation.
Yes, orgies. Orgies I say! Go for your life! But don't take your dog to the vet, or your kids to the library, or eat any food anywhere other than your home. Maybe if you're eating chocolate sauce off a bunch of other naked people in the orgie it's fine though?Joe Biden is corrupt and probably senile.
Boris Johnson is a clown.
Justin Trudeau is a puppet.
Still none of them compare to the lightweight leader of New Zealand.

Following Jesus is a challenge for all of us, but I don't envy our Kiwi brothers and sisters. We love you guys.
It is painful watching the insanely wicked burn down our societies. Romans 1, here we are.
We read apocryphal writings after the Torah portion to get a better look at the lifestyle and politics of the times. The stories are interesting and as long as they do not contradict Torah they are good background.I know Roman Catholics hold the Apocrypha as being Scripture. Thanks Jim and Mary. That sounds reasonable. I think they have substantial value, but I wouldn't have confidence that they are "breathed out by the Holy Spirit" like the 66 books of the Bible are.We read apocryphal writings after the Torah portion to get a better look at the lifestyle and politics of the times. Thank you for the thoughtful response. I always value your insights. What you said makes a lot of sense.I think it's highly worth reading. I won't comment on whether it's infallible (there are a range of books under that category with differing levels of agreement on them), but they're certainly worth reading. If someone wouldn't object to reading a modern Christian author, even though their writings are not scripture, I can't see why the same person would object to reading the Apocrypha, which is far more venerable than anything else you'd find on the shelves of your local Christian bookstore.
I'm glad that the authors of the New Testament mainly talked about Jesus. I don't think Mary minds being overshadowed by her Son.i'm not catholic, but this painting is really beautiful
I wish the authors of the new testament had talked more about Maria
