Trump may be all over this...
...Given the debacle today. Evidently the Blackhawk 'training' flight was running 'dark,' having turned off the mandated ADS system (which priced a lot of private pilots out of the air entirely - never mind some of the most contested airspace in the world over DC!) and turned directly into the path of the commercial Bombardier CRJ700, hitting almost head-on.
NOTE to non-pilots: A head-on collision is about the most difficult of all to avoid, especially for the commercial flight on final. An approaching aircraft appears ALMOST STATIONARY in the forward view, especially given all the city lights in the background. The only warning is that it gets BIGGER, suddenly. (Edit: Our eyes and brain tend to be much faster at identifying objects which tend to MOVE in our field-of-view.)
I'm one who has studied flight safety for decades, and has become convinced that too many 'accidents' happen when pilots are conditioned to rely on electronics, rather that doing what we all learned was THE "Number 1 Priority":
FLY the plane! And look out the window. Especially in busy airspace!
And then the cretin FBI comes out immediately, rather than keeping their mouth shut, like the FDA and CDC were ordered to, and says, "It's not terrorism." Good F'ing Grief. Can their credibility get any lower? Why not at least wait a respectable amount of time for another bogus "investigation"? Anybody that was NOT suspicious should be, now.
It might be a genuine horrible accident, with only suspicious timing.
But how many times do we have to see incredible, literally unbelievable, levels of incompetence that get people killed en masse?
PS> The commercial jetliner was almost certainly on an IFR flight plan, even in VFR conditions. Over-reliance on ATC can get you killed, too.
