What is a "Spirit of Truth"?

Your supposed "spirit of Jezebel" being an actual demon is questionable at best... The examples @Asforme&myhouse gave are actual scriptural examples of demonic influences... Big difference...

I know there is a big difference, that's the point. The point of this whole thread is what is the spirit of Truth and what's it for? Is it just to understand scripture better or does it include a purpose outside of scripture to direct our lives today.

does it include a purpose outside of scripture to direct our lives today.

This is dicey territory... If it contradicts scripture then it absolutely is not the spirit of truth... And more often than not its our own sinful flesh. I would say it's rarely an actual evil spirit...

May the Spirit of Truth teach me and make me less ignorant of the enemy’s devices.
Y’all can quantify it, I just want it to manifest in my life.

So you are saying that the Holy Spirit can not direct our lives outside of scripture (say direct us to get on a particular bus to go to work because it just so happens when you get to work you find out that three people got mugged on the bus you were going to take) in today's world?

I'll take my chances and trust the Spirit of Truth I have come to learn to have faith in for my daily life.

Your example is certainly not a contradiction of scripture so sure that kind of thing happens and has happened to me. I am thankful that the spirit of God directs my steps...

Then we are on the same page, just seeing it different I guess.

So I think 1 John 4 is talking about testing the spirits and knowing which are from God or not.

The fallacy of going based on capitalization aside, I think @Pacman has it right: the Spirit of Truth is a way of referring to the Holy Spirit.

However I have known people with the 'gift' of discerning spirits. They could feel when a person had an evil spirit or when one was around.

If 1 John 4 is talking about feeling when evil spirits are around, why isn’t that a common theme in scripture? I think he’s talking about not being deceived by false teaching, which is the theme of 1 John and the theme of much of the New Testament. What is a demon going to do to us besides trying to deceive us?

I don’t base the opinion on the capitalization I base it on context... the capitalization is simply a shortcut and it usually is a good indicator depending upon the translation being used...

I think it is probably about both evil spirits and false teachers but probably not feeling.

A 'feeling' of discerning spirits I get from 1 Corinthians 12:4-11.

1 Corinthians 12 doesn’t mention a feeling of discerning spirits. It might be more along the lines of spotting error and truth as in “the spirit of truth and the spirit of error”.
