It is at their whim, but in older translations might indicate the traditional understanding.
Wisdom might be a gift of the spirit? I don't know. There is some basis to think of the HS as she, but it's far from certain and may be very very wrong.
This all brought to remembrance the seven spirits of God...
That in Rev 1:4 and then in Isaiah 11:2, speaking of Jesus Christ...
So: might, counsel, understanding, wisdom, fear of Yahweh, knowledge. That's only 6 spirits, but I think you have to count 'the spirit of Yahweh', which get's you 7. But if not, what are we missing? One might say truth, but 'Understanding' in that passage is
also translated 'truth' and 'discernment'.
Interestingly spirit in that verse is
defined here, and is a feminine noun.
These 7 spirits are also talked about in Rev 3:1, 4:5, 5:6:
My question therefor is, what are these 7 spirits? Are these different than the Holy Spirit? I think probably not. One and the same? Is this a 7 in 1 sort of thing analogous to the 3 in 1 of the Godhead?
What is interesting to me is that this seems to be an important aspect of God, these 7 spirits are before the throne, the Holy Spirit of God. Yet it is almost never talked about.
